Specialist Services

Specialist Behaviour Support

At salams therapy hub, we have a comprehensive team of clinicians and practitioners that offer various specialist services.

What is Specialist Behaviour Support?

Specialist Behaviour Support, also known as Positive Behaviour Support (PBS), is a targeted approach designed to enhance participants’ quality of life by constructively addressing challenging behaviours. Our certified behavioural specialists, with expertise in allied health and advanced training in behaviour management, provide tailored support to meet each participant’s unique needs.

Our team addresses challenging behaviours through various methods, including:

  • Developing interim and comprehensive behaviour support plans
  • Preparing recommendation and review reports
  • Conducting functional capacity assessments
  • Managing restrictive practices
  • Training staff and key stakeholders
  • Providing customised strategies and practical recommendations
  • Offering behavioural consultations

How is it Funded?

Specialist Behaviour Support is generally funded through the NDIS Improved Relationships budget. If this funding isn’t currently included in your plan under the capacity-building section, don’t worry—we’re here to help. By using other parts of your NDIS plan, we can assess behaviours of concern and make recommendations for additional Improved Relationships funding in your next planning period.

Specialist Behaviour Support Process

Initial Assessment and Understanding Needs

The process begins with a thorough assessment of the individual’s needs, including identifying triggers, behaviours of concern, and underlying factors. This may involve interviews with the participant, their family, and support workers, as well as observing the individual in various settings.

Developing a Behaviour Support Plan (BSP)

Based on the assessment, a personalised behaviour support plan is created. This plan focuses on evidence-based strategies to manage and reduce challenging behaviours while promoting positive behaviours. It includes proactive interventions and guidance for managing specific situations.

Implementation and Training

The behaviour support plan is implemented with the involvement of all stakeholders, such as family members, carers, and educators. Comprehensive training is provided to ensure the strategies are applied consistently and effectively in the individual’s daily routines.

Monitoring and Adjusting the Plan

Regular reviews are conducted to assess the effectiveness of the plan. Adjustments are made as needed to reflect changes in the individual’s progress, circumstances, or environment. This step ensures ongoing improvement and sustainability of the support provided.
